Brahmi – A Brain-Boosting Herb

The development of the human brain is a long drawn process that starts inside the mother’s womb and continues arguably throughout the lifespan. Brain development in humans is a complex series of dynamic and adaptive processes that lasts throughout the entire course of development. Ayurveda mentions that the brain performance is largely depended on three things: a) Dhi- Learning and comprehension, b)Dhriti- processing and retention of knowledge, and c) Smriti – the power to recall or remember. Brahmi is also one of the important elements present in nature that helps in brain repair as it is rich in antioxidants, is anti-inflammatory, and anticonvulsant. It is known to revitalize the brain cells by removing toxins and blockages within the nervous system while having a nurturing effect. It can also help in balancing the right and left hemispheres of the brain.  Brahmi is extensively used to fight neurological disorders. Neurological disorders are mainly caused by free radicals present in our body.
