Born in a small business family in Bissam Cuttack, Odisha, Ritesh Agarwal went to become one of the youngest successful entrepreneurs in India. Popularly known as the founder and CEO of OYO Rooms, this young lad from Odisha is the owner of the fastest growing brand networks of hotels both online and offline.

Dreams coupled with hard work and dedications are what success stories are laced with. The same is applicable for Ritesh Agarwal from Cuttack, Odisha who was brave enough to think differently.

How his journey did begin?

Ritesh Agarwal, a boy with a vision from Cuttack in Odisha had a different outlook towards life. Learning with fun was one of the things always on his mind as he spent his schooling years in Rayagada, Odisha. He was often found opening up his computer and assembling it back again. By the time he was in the final years of his schooling Ritesh had already made up his mind to take up coding as a profession. A college dropout he soon moved to Delhi to set up his own startup. His first venture was Oravel Stays which later went on to become OYO Rooms.

Ritesh was not to be left in his pursuit to position his idea in a big way to the world. He presented his idea at Thiel Fellowship – a contest for students under the age of twenty. Ritesh’s idea was shortlisted and he went on to become the sole resident Asian to win the Thiel Fellowship of $100,000 to pursue his dream of setting up a start up.

Ritesh is a person with multifaceted talent. Apart from being one of the youngest entrepreneurs in India, he has also authored a book and is a successful coder. He has been one of the people who is agreement with the Chief Minister of Odisha to encourage and promote start-ups in the state. The Odisha government envisages on setting up a start up hub in Odisha in the next few years.
