According to the 5th National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) data, released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has the highest total prevalence of anemia at 39.86 per cent in the world.

As many as 68.4 per cent children and 66.4 per cent women surveyed suffered from anemia in 2019 as The corresponding figures for  2016 were35.7 per cent children and 46.1 per cent (Sourcs: National Family Heath Survey-NFHS-5)

As per the  Report,  in India ,the prevalence of anemia in women of reproductive age was 53% , the fifth-highest globally, after Yemen, Mali, Benin, and Nigeria which is alarming.
