Odisha native Mukut Minz – The Transplant Surgeon

Dr.Mukut Minz belongs to a modest family from the northwestern part of Odisha.He hails from the village of Kalunga of Lathikata block in the Sundergarh district of Odisha. After finishing his schooling from the village school, Dr, Minz was shifted to pursue higher studies to Rourkela situated in the northern most part of Odisha.Later on, he was successful in completing his M.B.B.S from VSS Medical College in Burla, Odisha. Dr.Minz attributes his success as a doctor to the good quality medical study that he had received in Burla, Odisha.
Dr. Mukut Minz with an experience of more than 36 years and 3,400 kidney transplants is one of the most sought after surgeons in India today.Our present External Affairs Minister Ms.Sushma Swaraj praised this doctor from Odisha for performing a successful kidney transplant surgery on her.Dr, Minz is one of the pioneers of Transplant Surgery in the country.He is also the first doctor to perform Pancreas transplant in the country. According to Dr. Minz, Indian hospitals are the best as far as Transplant surgery in the field of liver, eyes, pancreas, and kidneys.However, he also mentioned the sad state of affairs as far as government hospitals are concerned.He feels that government should take more initiative to run organ transplant programs efficiently as many people can’t afford private hospitals.

Dr.Mukut Minz mentions that he was motivated and inspires by his mentor RVS Yadav in his journey to become the nation’s best Transplant Surgeon.In the 1980’s Transplant Surgery was an upcoming discipline and Dr. Minz found this field of study particularly interesting.

Dr.Minz dedicated the biggest award that bestowed on him the Padmashree for showing exemplary dedication and diligence to the people of Odisha. He did not forget to mention that the education that he had received in his initial days in the schools and Medical College in Odisha laid the foundation stone for his immense success.
He was also honored with the Odisha Gaurav Samman 2012 conferred for exemplary work in the field of transplantation and the prestigious Bhubaneshwar Oration 2015 awarded by the Association of Surgeons of India, Orissa Chapter.
This son of the soil never did forget his home state Odisha and continues to work toward providing better medical care to the people.
