Kulekhara Herb in Kulerron Increases Hemoglobin and Reduces Anemia

Kulekhara- A Rich Source of Nutrition

In ancient Ayurveda, we find the mention of a medicinal plant named ‘’Kokilasha’’ which means ‘eyes like’. This is the plant commonly known as Kulekhara, which is native to India and is typically grown in swamp regions. Botanically, Kulekhara is known as  Hygrophila T spinose.

This plant contains many micronutrients and anti-bacterial elements which have all the essential ingredients for the healthy growth of cells. Though the nutritional value of the Kulekhara leaves is very high, it is highly underutilized due to a lack of knowledge and awareness by general people.

A Study Report  of the Comparison of the macronutrient content of conventional green leafy vegetables with Kulekhara leaves is given below:

Name of Leaves Carbohydrate (gm) Protein (gm) Fiber (gm) Moisture (%) Ash (gm) Fat (gm) Energy (Kcal)

Research study reveals that the way Kulekhara helps in increasing hemoglobin count is a very interesting one. The chlorophyll molecule of Kulekhara is found to be similar to the molecular structure found in hemoglobin. The function of both is the electron transfer to maintain the dynamics to be formed as chemical energy. The water molecule plays a key role in this. However, the exact mechanism is subject to further in-depth research.

Latter Gomez et al. showed in an experimental animal study that the ethanolic and aqueous extract of Kulekhara leaves have a very effective haematinic effect and that can increase the total RBC count, WBC count, and hemoglobin level effectively.
